Getting on the Path to School Improvement
The path to school improvement is overwhelming and challenging in an under resourced, vulnerable community.
Prioritise Intervention
There are many needs. It is important to address one or two needs at a time.
Bear these Attributes
Be passionate, compassionate, intentional, committed and consistent with understanding.
Two Questions to ask:
Vision: Why am I doing this? To what end? What change do I hope to see?
Mission: How do I intend to achieve the result?
Share Vision
Once the Why? and How? are understood, communicate this with the whole team. Get the team to buy the vision.
Trust
Work on building trust: trust in oneself and trust in the team.
Share Responsibility
Share responsibilities, including the risks and successes
Action Plan
As a team, identify school culture and determine what needs to be changed or maintained. Prioritise and develop an action plan to change negative culture. Cost the action plan and identify responsible personnel.
Milestone and Checkpoints
Assign responsibility. Develop milestones and conduct reviews.
