From Student to Professional: A Proud Encounter

I had to get routine blood work done a few days ago. As I waited for my turn, I noticed a team of very young laboratory technicians. I was used to seeing older staff in this role, so their youth, and their professionalism, immediately stood out. Properly masked and focused, none of them looked older than twenty.

When my name was finally called, I felt a mix of emotions. On one hand, I was genuinely glad to see the younger generation stepping up in this field. On the other, I’ll admit, I was nervous about them “fishing” for my veins. Still, I respected their profession, took my seat, and offered my arm without hesitation.

After the usual greetings and careful checks, the technician took one clean shot, found my vein instantly, and completed the work smoothly. When she said, “Thank you,” I replied, “No, I should be thanking you. You did a wonderful job.”

I was about to leave when she paused and said, “I know your face.”

“From where?” I asked.

“Beautiful Beginnings School,” she said. “I graduated from Grade 6.”

She pulled down her mask, and that’s when I recognized her Ms. Sumo!

My heart swelled with pride!
